Despite glowing reviews from critics, DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2 wasn’t able to open to quite as much as some were expecting it to this weekend, ultimately getting crushed by the release of the R-rated comedy The Hangover: Part II. The animated sequel opened to barely half of what The Hangover did, grossing a still quite solid $48 million over the three-day weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. Even so, Kung Fu Panda 2 has made less in its first four days than the 2008 original made in its first three, making some question whether the studio marketed the film properly, arguing that the trailers did not do a good job of showing what the movie was actually about. The sequel is expected to see a boost tomorrow, though, as it is Memorial Day, and kids will be off from school.
