Mahalo to all of our volunteers who came out to help us cleanup Kaena Point State Park-Mokuleia Section on March 28, 2015. We had 50+ people who took precious time from their weekend to haul out 900+ pounds of debris. We focused on the leftovers from numerous palette fires that have been set throughout the park, debris such as broken bottles, cans and especially the nails that held the palettes together. More than half the weight of the trash hauled out was nails.

Volunteers came from different parts of our island and as far away as Waimanalo. We also had a family visiting from Idaho who took time from their vacation to join us. We want to thank our friends from Kokua Hawaii Foundation for helping organize the event;  the Department of Land and Natural Resources; Division of State Parks provided a trash bin, magnets for the nails and plastic buckets and bags for trash collection and the Division of Forestry and Wildlife helped with trash removal.

We were tired and dirty after our day but the satisfaction of doing something positive for our precious ‘aina left everyone in a good mood. We earned our sleep that night! Stay tuned for our next event. Upcoming hikes are scheduled for Saturday April 11th or May 9th.
